Children International

Children International is a humanitarian organization focused on helping overcome poverty through child sponsorship. There is a branch here in the city. I have learned about Children's International through a friend who has a brother sponsored by a Canadian when he was young. I also learned from her that every letter from both the sponsor and the child are being screened by the staff of Children International and that some gifts sent by the sponsor are not given all to the sponsored child. I listened to it passively then..unconcerned.

As I pass by Children International office almost daily the need of these children sinks in to me. I even encounter some of them in a passenger jeepney. Yesterday a mother and daughter picked up a gift sent by the child's sponsor. I knew because there was a letter and a picture of a foreigner couple. They were also very happy of the gifts they received. I just wondered though why was it in a small plastic only. I mean, isn't it supposed to be in a box with the child's name on it care of perhaps to Children International? I don't know how it works there but when I remember what my friend said a long time ago I'm beginning to wonder.

I hope it's not true because that's not good. Those poor children needed those things and it doesn't reach them? Very very bad. I thought they only serve as a channel for both parties.

During school days or special occasions they are given gift check to purchase it in the mall. Gift check with the same amount for each child? Does the sponsor send exactly the same amount for every child they sponsor?

Ah, i don't want to be bitchin about this because that organization helps a lot of children but if they are robbing what are meant for the those poor children then they should be ashamed of themselves.

A very bad day

This morning my daughter and I went downtown early to withdraw money for her enrollment. When we got there it was offline. We ate our brunch at the mall while waiting thinking that it was the normal "offline" occurrence. After we ate we checked again hoping that it was already okay but no still offline. We decided to go home first because I needed to feed my dogs and replace new water for them to drink especially at the peak of the heat. I again had to wet the cement to at least absorb the heat. Anyway, after a while we again went back downtown. ( I thought of calling the bank but believe it or not we have no directory and my new phone company sucks so bad that their so called hotline is actually very cold because it says currently unreachable.)

When we got there still offline. By this time it was already almost 2 o'clock in the afternoon when suddenly my tummy acted up I was literally on the floor clutching my stomach in pain. We rushed back home to relieve myself. Of course as you guessed, we went back downtown again just to be told that we just try tomorrow. Okay there's really no more chance that my daughter could enroll even if we wait because it was already late in the afternoon and the enrollment was more likely closed for the day. We have to try our luck tomorrow because today is the second and last day for enrollment for those who are qualified and tomorrow are for the wait listed. We are worried that her slot will be given to others because she wasn't able to enroll on time. I hope (again) that our luck will make a 360 degree turn tomorrow that we could convince the registrar that what happened today is completely out of our control.

This time we asked for the bank's number from the guard and I called when we got home. The employees are still there also waiting for the bank to be online to finish their tasks. I called again at around 6:30 and still offline. There is a problem in their main's system so everything is down.

Wish us luck tomorrow!

Hottest day....

I believe today is the hottest day so far! I thought it was at least gonna rain even for a short time when I saw that it was starting to be gloomy but then after a minute the sun's wrath came back even more powerful this time that it can almost literally drive you crazy. It's really really hot! I had to spray the pavement with water so that the dogs will not feel the heat much. It usually is windy at night but not right now. It's like we're being punished and meant to feel this intense heat. And if that's not enough at 2 o'clock in the afternoon the power was cut off bringing us more into a hellish heat. Thankfully it only lasted an hour but it was like an eternity!

I prefer the sun than the rain but anything excessive is not good. A little rain every now and then would be most welcome. It's rainy days soon and i just really hope that the rain will not be as intense as the heat we experience now.

Anyway, my friend texted me this afternoon cautioning me about the rampant case of burglary. Her friend were a victim twice in a week. Thankfully no one was hurt.

A maid's blog

Yesterday as I was dropping entrecard to sites, I've encountered an interesting blog. As I was reading her latest post I knew what she was and I confirmed it when I read the title of her blog. She is a maid.

I cannot help not to feel proud of her for alleviating her life through blogging with dignity. She is not ashamed of what she is and didn't even pretend otherwise. She just shouted to the world that is a maid. We all know here in my country they are sometimes the center of jokes just for being what they are.

I grew up with maids and in this country you don't need to be rich to have maids in the house. I got completely free of maids when my daughter turned 12, when she was old enough to tend to herself at home. It was her idea as well. My point is in all those years, I have become good friends with them and they were like my sisters and brothers. We never treat them as servants but as family.

Anyway, I hope she will serve as role model for other maids out there, with dreams and the determination to change her life the best way she knows.

Here's the link to her site and let's support and guide her to a better path. Oh, she's on dot com not blogger.Wow!..lol

Kris Aquino Despedida

There is a Facebook group called Kris Aquino Despedida that calls for kris to leave the country. She is being challenged to be true to her words. Although she said IF, the fact that her brother is already affected by this issue is an indication that she take action.

The members are growing. As of this writing it is now more than 22, 000 members and counting.

To be honest, I don't like Kris Aquino either. I don't watch television because of the likes of her. She's arrogant, insulting and has no respect for others. She butts in as if her words is only what count. Clearly her behavior is that of insecure person despite her fame and fortune. For someone who claims to be smart I don't pity her because she's too arrogant to recognize she has a problem and continue to malign other people. The fact that she's being idolized is not helping at all. For me she's not smart. Some members of the KAD group can take her down anytime of the day through mental calisthenics that she'd wish she's invisible.

I don't know what this KAD group will accomplish but hopefully it will result on Kris out of the limelight. We need a role model that can enhance one's personality in a positive way. To inspire and not set a bad example.

DIGITEL sucks

For over a week now my internet connection is being a pest. I really made a mistake on applying for this company (DIGITEL). They really have a bad service in every sense of the word. I went to their office this afternoon to report my complaint. I don't want any bill to arrive with no service rendered. It's just not fair. I hope in a day or two they will do some action regarding my problem.

I cannot stand the heat today. It's draining my energy. I'm almost paralyzed to move.

I cannot imagine how the people falling in line for almost a mile during the peak of the heat to get a birth certificate are feeling. I don't know why they just don't apply online. I did, because when I applied locally, the crowd in the office was enough to make me faint. I didn't last five minutes there. I applied online, printed the acknowledgement receipt, paid it over Western Union and waited. It arrived in less than 10 days.

Etcetera

It's a non working holiday here in our place. It is ALBAY day.I expect traffic again due to rerouting of passenger and private vehicles. But the good thing about living in a small province is that the traffic here is not as bad as the traffic in Manila. Here, if traffic is at its heaviest ( during rerouting because of parade, motorcade etc. ONLY) you still have an option to walk or take the trycicle if you are in a hurry. But if you don't want to be inconvenience it's better to just stay home.

In election related story..there was one candidate that sold his house to use the money for his campaign. Unfortunately he didn't win. He compromised his family. This story showed me that candidates really hope that they can gain the money that they spent during the election back by i don't know how but one can only guess. I don't think they earn that big to be able to buy another house for his family. How many officials out there are genuinely honest? I'm shaking my head and not believing that one even exists.

I believe the country now is even more deteriorating because of who won as President. He won by sympathy with zero performance.Like I always say, the people has to change if we want to completely see some changes in this country. Aquino is not even sitting as president yet but he's recieving a lot of criticisms already. What? Didn't you vote for him?? What about Estrada? He was accused of plunder and was overthrown in the position but now he's in second place next to Aquino gaining millions of votes! What is wrong with you people??? (sigh)

Education is the key.

People should stop depending their lives on the government and stop being lazy. There are lots of jobs. They are not qualified.

As long as you are not capable of thinking for yourself, these politicians will keep on thinking for you. In other words manipulate and use you.
